Potential funding for athletes living in Hertfordshire

There is a potential funding stream for Taekwondo athletes living in Hertfordshire.  Athletes must be aged between 13-18 years old and have attended a training camp at the Great Britain National Academy or been part of the National Team for a competition. Please check eligibility before applying for the funding.  Deadline is Thursday 19th June 2008

The 2008 BTCB National Championships

The British Taekwondo Control Board (BTCB) has the pleasure in
announcing the dates for this year's National Championships.

The Championships will take place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th
September 2008 at the Manchester Velodrome. 

To be eligible to take part each competitor must be a member of the
British Taekwondo Control Board (BTCB) or affiliated member group and
comply with the rules of the World Taekwondo Federation.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday 27th August 2008.

European Championships In Rome

European Championships 2008

Britain continued their excellent form at the European Taekwondo Championships in Rome on day two with Martin Stamper (Elite Taekwondo Club, Liverpool) winning a silver medal in the    -62Kg weight category.

Stamper, who is sponsored by B&Q, put in a series of strong performances throughout the day only to lose to experienced German competitor Levent Tuncat by 4-0 in the final but remained positive despite clearly being disappointed he wasn’t able to go on and win gold, “Levent is obviously a superb fighter but when you get to the final at the Europeans and lose out you are always going to be wondering what might have been. I take some comfort from the fact I fought really well today and am still very proud of my silver medal.”

Medal Success for Britain on Opening Day of European Championships

British Taekwondo enjoyed a successful first day at the European Championships, which kicked-off in the Italian capital of Rome. Britain has taken an eight-strong squad to Rome with four athletes competing on the first day collecting one silver and two bronze medals.

Belgian Open 2008

More Success for British Taekwondo at Belgian Open as Team looks
to Rome for European Championships

 British Taekwondo enjoyed a successful weekend competing at the 29th Belgian Open Championships with a small team of six athletes winning two gold and two silver medals at the Bloso Sports Centre in Ghent. The Championships operated with the same scoring system to be used in Beijing this summer whilst this weekend’s European Championships in Rome will feature the controversial new electronic points scoring system which even the World Federation has not sanctioned.

Assistance Required For Design Project

The British Taekwondo Control Board alongside the WTF and Loughborough University are engaging in a project that may help to design a trunk protector that has you the athlete at the forefront of its final design features.

I would like to request for the help and support of you, Taekwondo instructors, coaches and practitioners in completing an online questionnaire. The project team has developed this online questionnaire available at www.protective-sport.co.uk It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and is anonymous.

Your help will be much appreciated and will help greatly in understanding the needs of the athletes.
