Great Britain bids to host the World Qualification Tournament for the 2008 Beijing Olympics
Great Britain yesterday presented to the World Taekwondo Federation its bid to host the 2007 World Taekwondo Qualification Tournament for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Gary Hall, Performance Director of Sport Taekwondo UK, traveled to Seoul this week to present President Choue with the bid document.
The bid sets out Great Britain’s ambitions to host World Qualification Tournament in Manchester in 2007.
The event will be the largest Taekwondo competition to be held in Great Britain and promises to provide not just the North West but also the whole of Great Britain with a great competition, profiling many past and future Olympic medalists. The event will be an inspiration to many young martial artists and will no doubt provide a great legacy of Taekwondo in Britain inspiring the next generation of athletes to take up the sport and strive for Olympic greatness.
The candidature also comes with the full support from British Olympic Association President and IOC Member Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, Rt Hon Richard Caborn, Minister for the Department of Culture Media and Sport and UK Sport Chair Sue Campbell CBE.
The successful host country will be announced after each candidature city presents their bid on July 24th at the WTF Executive Committee meeting in Vietnam during the Junior World Championships.
Please continue to support the BTCB and Sport Taekwondo UK as they aim to bring this and many more major events to the United Kingdom in the coming years.
