Another Medal for British Taekwondo on Day Two of European Championships in Rome
Britain continued their excellent form at the European Taekwondo Championships in Rome on day two with Martin Stamper (Elite Taekwondo Club, Liverpool) winning a silver medal in the -62Kg weight category.
Stamper, who is sponsored by B&Q, put in a series of strong performances throughout the day only to lose to experienced German competitor Levent Tuncat by 4-0 in the final but remained positive despite clearly being disappointed he wasn’t able to go on and win gold, “Levent is obviously a superb fighter but when you get to the final at the Europeans and lose out you are always going to be wondering what might have been. I take some comfort from the fact I fought really well today and am still very proud of my silver medal.”
Gary Hall, Performance Director for Great Britain, added: “Martin did excellently today and overcome a tough competitor from Poland with a golden points victory in the semi-final. We are now halfway through the European Championships and four out of the six squad members who have competed so far have won medals and I hope in the remaining two days we might be able to claim a couple more.”
